Choosing to Smile is a world-wide movement for people who have faced any kind of adversity and have chosen to smile in the face of it. The movement evolved from the book ‘Choosing to Smile’ which was written by three friends, Glenda, Julie and Michelle, who just happened to have cancer.

Can't believe it's been a week since Michelle and I left to go on our Kelowna and Kamloops booksigning tour! It felt odd to leave our 'third muskateer' at home but Julie was just too weak from being in the hospital for five days and eating nothing but jello! (She had a bad reaction to her chemo and decided to take a break from her meds for awhile to allow her body time to recuperate.) We needed signed copies of the book to take with us so Julie had to put her autograph on in the hospital - what a trooper! She may (or may not) share some of her wild hospital experiences with you in her blog but she had me rolling on the floor laughing when she told me about her room mates! It has the makings of another book for sure!
We stayed at the Rhythym and Rhyme Retreat in Kelowna which is also known as "My Bosum Buddy Shelly Vida's House" - from the moment we walked in till the moment we left we felt right at home! Yes, the 'Shelly' from my story has an amazing home she rents out in the summer to vacationers. It even comes with a hot tub, BBQ, a gorgeous deck, a hammock and a back yard that's a gardener's paradise! Michelle brought home a ton of garden ideas for her own backyard oasis. We cracked open a bottle of tequila - and had a drink... sorry if you were expecting more! None of us are big drinkers but we do know how to laugh and have fun without it... So many people stopped by to say hi at Mosaic Book Store that it felt like old home week. My brother-in-law came in early with his son and wife which set the tone for the day. Derek, Shelly's son, and Jesse, his cousin, dropped by for hugs too. Kelly and Blake (friends I went to school with) showed up (also expert huggers!); Vicki from our FB group came and introduced herself and we ran into her and her hubby later on at a concert - Kelowna really is a small town! After our book signing at Mosaic books we met up with Shelly who took us to see the band 'Fathead' perform at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. We never stopped smiling all night!
Happy to say, both book events went amazingly well but we did miss Julie - she says she's NEVER going to miss another tour again! I don't blame her - my face hurt from laughing for three days with Michelle - remind me to tell you someday about the incident with the 'beeper' they put on the courtesy scooter at Walmart... because that's a WHOLE 'nother story!
